Is this my graphics card and if so can i fix it or do i need a new one?

all was fine until my first restart of 2008 then there were flashing bits on start up and desktop has columns of green lines running down it, i dont know much about technical stuff, when checking display properties i can only choose eith 16 or 32 bit no true/hi colour option, dont think it was like that before, did virus scans and all clear-avast was running anyway and nothing prompted me that anything had happened, drivers are up to date and i did a pc check that was clear, pc is working fine apart from these columns, the pixels in the columns move when i move the mouse, i think the graphics card is a ATI radeon 9800 pro, cant think of anything else to try, please help

Sounds like it could be a monitor or monitor cable problem. Video card is a possibility as well, but you should check other things first. First check the cable to make sure it is plugged in correctly. Then try connecting a different monitor and see if you have the same problems. If you have the same problems with a different monitor then it is the card. If you try a different monitor and the picture is clear, problem is with the monitor.

If you had an integraded card that uses shared RAM for memory, then it could be a RAM problem, but the 9800 pro card has it's own onboard memory.

BTW: 16-bit color = High color and 32-bit = True-color, so those options are correct.
