avast does work on Vista. You need to make sure you get an antivirus that is compatible with Vista. Norton (which you should never use for many reasons) requires norton 2007, none of the older versions will work.

Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 -------THE BEST -----http://us.trendmicro.com/us/home/home-us... I USE IT ON MY VISTA ULTIMATE

Vista has a few compatibility issues with Anti virus and firewall software. I use AVG free with Vista and it works perfectly:

You may have more luck with a newer version of Norton, but this of course means buying a new copy!

Vista came out in 2007, so Norton 2007 and not Norton 2006 will work on it. Look for anti-viruses that were released after Vista came to market. Alwil are also working to make Avast Vista compatible as soon as possible. I think AVG Free is already Vista compatible, so you can use that meanwhile. Or you may buy a premium anti-virus like Kaspersky, Norton, BitDefender, F-Secure, McAfee, TrendMicro etc. (check for 2007 versions)
