Unlike my office desktop which takes 3 minutes to be up and ready, my laptop takes soo long. Could there be some "hidden" programs running in the background? What do you recommend I must do? Is Norton and Avast antivi affecting it? Any ideas? I even use 54Mbps broadband, and yet...
How do I speed up my laptop startup? It takes 5 years before I can use even IE7.?spyware removal
Hi go to Start %26gt; Run and type msconfig - go to the startup tab and uncheck unnecessary programs that are set to load before you can begin browsing.
Also delete any unnecessary icons off your desktop and move to a new folder in your My Documents - you can right click the new icon in My Documents and create a shortcut to it on your desktop so you still always have your files etc to hand without it slowing start up down. I did both these things, worked fab!!

YOU MUST HAVE AN OLDER MECHINE, USE MSCONFIG IN THE RUN , THE SEE WHATS IN YOU STARTUP, SELECT ONLY THE ONES YOU WANT. AOL TAKES ALOT OF MEMORY, ALSO NORTON AND ANY OTHER ANTIVIRUS. YOU NEED AT THE BEAR BOTTOM 512 OF RAN AND 3.0MHZ P4 OR BETTER
look in task manager to see what running after it boots up, might be something you dont need to start. avast isn't too bad but nortons is a hog. depend on the connection difference a lot, and hardware.
It could be one of two things: First, check how much RAM you have. Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, and it will be listed in there. Next, check how many programs you have running in the backround. If you have several icons in the systray (bottom right hand corner next to the time). To eliminate this you would click on Start, then Run, type in msconfig then click OK. From there you would click on Startup and uncheck any programs that are unnecessary (pretty much anything other than your anti-virus program) if that doesnt work it may be a virus or spyware or adaware, run your anti virus program and anti spyware program. If you dont have one I would recommend AVG Free for anti virus and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware for anti spyware, both are free and can be downloaded from download.com. If the problem persists consult a local PC repair shop, it may be a deeper issue that cannot be easily resolved through basic troubleshooting.
