I have avast now and it stinks please help.

Symantec AntiVirus is best. If anything does somehow get by, it send you a report. You can have it quarantined so it can't duplicate itself anymre, or just deleted. Or deleted after you put it in quaranine.

Doesn't take a lot of memory either. Norton takes a ton and is like a big virus itself. It makes the computer a lot slower and takes a long time for PC to start up while Norton is running. Takes A LOT of space.

In the computer lab in my school some computers running Panda AV, Norton 2007 AV and AVG free edition got infected by a worm spreads via flash memory, the existing AVs didn't detect it. Booting from a rescue disk failed too because all the systems formatted with the NTFS file system. I have McAfee ISS on my home pc and it detected the virus on one of my students' flash memory "w32 Generic Downloader ". Just installing kaspersky from a cd on the infected systems has neutralized the virus even it infected some windows programs like spoolsv.exe, msconfig.exe and others.

From my experience I recommend McAfee and Kaspersky and I read articles on the internet claiming that they have the highest detection rates. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear about other good AV programs around from the users perspective.
Search "AVG Free" in Google, and click the first website that comes up. Download it...it is free and it works great! Also, if you want a super fast computer, download some spyware remover.

a message saying ':O, is that you [and the link to the URL], i clikced it and it cames up Run, so i did and my avast says i no have 3 viruses, but when i go to delete them it says it is being used by another process..ive tryed using force delete softwere, it comes up when i open WLM / MSN and comes up every 10 minutes after that.....i will be very greatful :$

It is probably not a virus or you antivus would have taken care of it.

You could try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good. Go To:

start

programs

accessories

systems tools

system restore

This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

You may need to reinstall any recent software programs, but it is a quick fix when you dont know what else to do.

Hello! I hope someone can help me.

Something has disactivated my antivirus (AVG 7.5, Spybot Search and Destroy and Norton AV 2005, as well as Zone Alarm firewall) so that I can't reinstall them. I've also tried to install Bit defender 10 and Avast to try to find that virus or troyan, but I just can't install any. SuperAntispyware, which I also use, detects some threat but the computer reboots with an error before being able to finish the scan. And Ad-aware just detected some low risk tracking cookies I could delete.

I can't start windows on safe mode or connect to the internet (neither the wi-fi nor the router cable directly - windows can't start WZC).

I formatted the laptop last week... so I'm not doing it again :'(

Yesterday I got Norton saying I had a Downloader virus, but it was supposedly deleted.... I guess not.

Please help!!

I think all those antivirus are conflicting with each other. You can only have one AV installed at a time and your AVG 7.5 is gonna conflict with your Norton for sure, not to mention when you brought Avast *and* Bitdefender into the mix... all of your resources are going into family feud here with nothing left to run the computer!

Is that Norton 2005 still active and updating? If it isn't, axe it!

COMPUTER help!!...?

First of all, i tried to open the internet, and it said that it didnt have enough memory press ok to terminate the application. I tried to open spybot search and destroy, it said the same thing, then i switched user, but then it said the computer has been locked ''Username - HP_Owner then password - Enter or something, but i didnt have a password, then it said incorrect, then it said not enough memory, press ok to terminate the application again, so i switched the computer off, turned it back on and its ok at the moment, the internet came back on, but it's going to do it again because it did it before while i left logged on, what is wrong with my computer? it was working fine before. I have spybot search and destroy, yahoo anti-spy, and avast! anti-virus, i checked for viruses on tuesday and it didnt have any, and i removed some spyware aswel with spybot. but it keeps saying terminate application etc, Can someone help me sort this please?

can you give us your specs on the puter. how much memory do you have right now and have you loaded your puter up with endless files. try doing a disk clean up and defrag if you have not already. you may need to upgrade your memory. also try windows cleaner advanced (i heard it works real well)

maybe you have a error, sometimes spyware embedds itself into real registery keys and your anti virus removes the keys try a system restore.
fist see if you can rebot the system then they should all go away
Did you try to reboot in safe mode? normally pressing f8 while booting up (bios windows) once login go to control panel and disable any account that you are not using like quest account and so forth. Try cleaning the pc while in safe mode and then reboot.

Its a good idea to list your pc specs it would be very helpful to whoever wanted to help you.

I finally have DSL!!!! I didn't have to worry much before about viruses and spyware before because my dial up connection was so slow (24Kbps!!!) I have Avast!4 Home Edtion antivirus,and SpywareBlaster on my computer , i was going to install Spybot S%26D but i heard that it dosen't work good with SpywareBlaster, So i have decided to install Ad-Aware SE Personal (i have heard it is a good program) but i am wondering if it has any conflicts with SpywareBlaster.

If i go under all programs it wont show nothing or whatever. My run dont work. Registry i cant get into. If i click on run here is what it says: windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do u want the shortcut to be placed on the desk top. Even if i hit search to that is also not working. What ever the problem was it deactivated my zone alarm so i had to put another antivirus on to. I downloaded mcafee to and for some strange reason it didnt download correctly or something and it never showed on the system. I am pretty pc literate so i thought that was sorta strange. Sounds like you need a computer geek to come and re-install windows, I know you don't want to wander through the registry.

Forget AVG - go to Limewire.com and download Norton Anti Virus - its a much better program - if you follow the directions in the text file, it will run perfectly without you needing to buy it.
i really advice you to don't install AVG because always make problems, i have Norton antivirus from 2 years ago and i don't have any problems, just try Norton.
