In my own opinion, commercial anti-viruses such as the one you mentioned are heavy (It loads a lot of startup programs). I'm not using commercial anti-viruses since I'm just an individual. Also, commercial ones have this feature that they will require you confirm something when you start or installed a program. They will pop-up on your system tray which is kinda irritating to others.

I've been using Avast for around 3 years. It is light and very easy to use. It updates automatically and doesn't hurt your OS processes.

well i use to be a norton an long ago.but now i find it just trys and in most cases does, take over your system too much,i ad the new norton works 2008 and sold it on ebay,only got 1/2 price but better then nothing ,the old nortons where good when the antivirus was all byitself .like norton 2000ish, what do i think about avast? i think its one of the best freebees out there,doesn't win all the awards for nothing right? i just upgraded to avast 4.8 runs super, i'v tried them all.alot will swearby AVG but avast catchs more ,firewall side same thing tried all free ones .only one that has 100per cent leak proof on ports out o the box is OnlineARMOR,beats them all out even zonealarm,popup best one is 12ghosts,spyware side im running spywaredoctor off google pack,and spywareterinator with a built in ClamAV.all these work together no conflicts at all and are all free, running win xp64bit,asus formula SE,q6600 go 3.2, 4gigs dominator,sli gtx 8800,1000watt ultra,antec 900case,2x150raptor hds,and big water kit,
People hate Norton due to it being a sytem resource hog and costing so much money, when you can have a security suite that costs nothing.
