There is sometimes a commercial or something that plays even when nothing is open on my computer. For instance, right now there is some playing and it starts out with intro music then it's like... "I'm Christy Barker and welcome to cover girl tv!" Do you think this is a virus? When I do control alt delete, it says nothing is open, and I have run avast! anti virus and nothing shows up.
Why is there sound playing on my computer when I don't have any programs open?computer virus
Were you recently running any programs that would play that if they were running properly? Sometimes when you exit a program, it minimizes itself to the system tray(bottom right hand corner of the screen). Mouse over all the programs there and see if any of them could cause that. Also, it is totally possible for a sound to keep playing after a program is completely closed. This could happen if program had poorly written closing scripts and 'forgot' to stop using audio channels.
However, what's more likely is that there's ads on some program that are intended to be bothering you. There are a few possibilities: You might have downloaded an "adware" program, these are programs that pretend to be free, but the real cost is bombarding you with ads like that. Another thing that might be going on is you might be accidently mousing over ads in msn or internet explorer that play on mouseover.
If you dont mind telling us, what are the last 5 programs you installed/downloaded, and what web pages are you looking at when this happens?
Also, getting Firefox is never a bad idea:
