Win32 virus and how to get rid of it?

Okay i've had the virus before from files i downloaded but i've been able to get rid of them with ease with avast! but i recently clicked on a pop up that said i needed new activex and after a few times clicking no i just clicked yes(i know stupid right) but now it's saying i havea virus and trying to get me to download all this soft ware and as i type there are messages saying ALERT: You have a trojan backdoor virus or something, and i did a system restore but didn't have a point saved so i went back about twenty minutes but that wasn't enough, i could actually here the virus rewriting itself inside the computers tower and then the messagegs started again, please help and give me full step by step please

The FIRST thing to do is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

To disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.
