Windows Explorer Keeps Shutting Down?

Ok, here's my problem. I am running Vista Home Basic and I just installed a new processor into my computer (Wolfdale E8400 to be specific) and ever since Windows Explorer has not been working right. anytime I try to go into My Computer or the Control Panel Windows Explorer kicks me out and disappears (this includes the start button, task bar, and desktop icons). there is no error message or anything it just happens. occasionally it will boot back up after a few seconds, but 9 out of 10 times I have to restart it in the task manager. I have done a virus scan with Avast!, a full scan with windows defender(which turned up one trojan), and cleaned out my registry with ccleaner and wise registry cleaner, but the problem still persists. The only other thing I can think to try is reinstalling Vista, but I hear I will lose my data if I do that. Any advice would be much appreciated.

One last thing, I updated my BIOS from P30 to P32 (I have a Nvidia 680i motherboard)

go into device manager and uninstall you processor driver. then reboot and let vista find the processor and load new driver

you could try update but the entry of a wrong processor may fool vista to looking for a new driver for the old processor, so it may be best to uninstall that driver, then it will force vista to identify the new processor and load the driver.

I have the same problem with explorer shuting down with Vista.

I have found no way to fix it.

Some people have luck with having no add ons on the tool bar.

Best advice is to use other browsers, firefox or opera.
